Back on the Wagon

So - I feel like every post lately begins with "I've been slacking!".  These last few weeks I just haven't been in the mood to blog.  And I've been doing horribly with workouts, which is probably a huge part of that.

But - I think I'm finally back on the wagon. :)  I actually did TurboKick Tuesday and Wednesday this week. :)  And I'll be back again on Saturday.  And dinners this week have been really good!
Pasta w/ Sweet Beans and Basil 'Cream'
Turkey Stew
Chicken Chili

Tonight my aunt and uncle are in town, so we're heading to my brother's for a family dinner.  I think the plan is burgers and chicken, salad, some type of rice, and I'm making crockpot braised butternut squash with thyme and cider.  Overall - not too bad.

I do have some eating out plans for the weekend - but Saturday is at the Fish Market, so I know I can easily go healthy there. :)  J's birthday is Wednesday - I'm waiting for him to tell me what he wants for dinner so I know if I can actually do it on his birthday after work, or if it's more of a Sunday meal.  Plus - I'm making him cheesecake.  Nope, not healthy, but it is his birthday!! :)

I just finished up with my September Ingredient of the Month, which was Butternut Squash.  I had some fun with it.  Check it out here to see what I made.  Also take a peak while you're there at what the October Ingredient of the Month is.

Since we have the dinner plans tonight, I won't have time to get in a workout.  I'll try to remember to weigh in tomorrow.  I know I haven't in forever.  I'm a bit scared to see what my scale says!

It's Been a While

Wow - have I been slacking or what?  Unfortunately it's not only on the blog, but in the last 2 week I've only worked out twice. :(  Not good, I know.

I've used all the excuses - busy, not feeling well, tired, out of town.  But I just need to suck it up and get back on the wagon. Even though I feel so much better after, getting there has been so difficult lately. :/

I know I usually do Zumba on Wednesdays, but I may switch it up and do TurboKick.  It's a bit more of a workout, and it's closer.  But I'll do one or the other for sure!!

I just posted a giveaway on my blog for Nature Valley Granola Nut Clusters.  These are really quite good!  A great quick snack when you're on the go. :)

Also check out this Spinach Feta Pasta and these Chicken Spinach Quesadillas.

I have been forgetting to weigh in on Fridays, but I know I've gained a bit recently.  I'll have to hop back on the scale this Friday to see where I'm at.  Hopefully I haven't done any really major damage.

I have a long 4 day weekend this week, so I may not post again until Monday.  I usually tend to stay away from the computer when I'm at home.  But, who knows, maybe I'll get bored and hop on.

I have a wedding to go to on Saturday - so of course there will be a bit of heavy drinking.  I'll have to make some good food choices this weekend.

Busy Weekend

First off - I totally forgot to weigh in on Friday, so I don't have an update.  I also didn't work out on Thursday night.  I was exhausted and just didn't feel like moving.

Saturday, however, I did work out in the morning.  Then I went to get my hair cut (I'm pretty sure I lost a pound right there :p ), and then we went to our friend's 30th b-day party.

Sunday was our 1 YEAR ANNIVERSARY... already!!  I can't believe it's been a whole year already! :)

We decided to go golfing in the morning - as a way to spend some QT together.  We both did awful, but we had fun!!  After golf we headed home and made ourselves a delicious anniversary dinner... complete with champage that we had at our wedding.  Check out the recipes and a few wedding pics here!

Last night I didn't make it to Zumba - instead I went with a friend to get some wedding gifts for a couple of upcoming weddings.  I've been really slacking on workouts the past 2 weeks.  I definitely need to get there tonight, tomorrow and Thursday!!

We stopped afterwards for some sushi for dinner... YUM!!

I'm a Blogging Slacker

I know it's been about a week since I updated this blog.  I just haven't had the energy to keep up with it.  Maybe it's the lack of workouts getting to me.  I haven't had one since Saturday. :(

But - there's a reason!  A new kitten!! :)

Yep - J and I became the proud parents of Rella on Sunday - adopted from our local humane society.  She's only 4 months old and about 3 pounds.  She is a crazy, energetic, adventurous little thing. :)

Tuesday and Wednesday we were experimenting with her out of her 'room', in full view of our Rottweiler, Lab, and other 4 year old cat.  Last night we decided they were all being good and to keep her out for good.

Anyway - I skipped my workouts because I wanted us both to be able to keep on eye on them, especially the dogs.  But they are all doing well - she has quickly become friends with our other cat (which I was really hoping would happen).  And the dogs basically ignore her, except for a few random times when they decide to give chase.  She's quick, so it's okay. :)

So I've been doing pretty well with eating this week.  I can't necessarily say the same for the weekends - you know, picnics and cookouts and such.  But I'm missing my workouts.  I'll be returning to TurboKick tonight and I really need it!

Here are some of the recipes I'm made this week: Caesar Salad, Butternut Squash Ravioli, Pulled BBQ Chicken Sandwiches, Strawberry-Banana Smoothie, and Italian Tortilla Pizza.

Tomorrow is weigh-in day.  Not sure that's going to go over real well this week. :/

I'll definitely be going to class on Saturday morning, and J and I are planning to golf on Sunday (hoping weather.com is right).  So I'm getting back into the workouts - I'm definitely not completely off track, just a bit sidetracked. :)

It definitely gets more difficult as the weather starts to cool.  I love those great, fattening, winter comfort foods.  I need to start looking now for healthier versions (anyone want to share yours?).  I should make a couple of big batches of veggie soup and maybe chicken noodle to keep on hand for the winter.  If  I ever get a weekend free.

Cold weather also makes it more difficult to get motivated to get out and work out.  Once I get home I love to just curl up on the couch under a blanket with some hot chocolate and a good book. (Actually - that sounds nice right about now.)  But I'm really going to try to keep up with 3-4 times a week workouts.  It helps that I really enjoy my classes right now.  Sometimes it's hard to get myself there, but once it's over, I'm really happy that I did it.

May have hit a plateau...

Let's backtrack to Wednesday real quick. :)  Wednesday night I made Shrimp Cakes and Avocado Tomato Stacks for dinner... very good!

Went to Zumba that night - on my very sore legs. :)  But it was good.  Once I started moving my muscles loosened up a bit.  I was still a bit sore yesterday, but much better today!

Last night I made Turkey Burgers and Potato Chips (not fried!) for dinner.  Instead of working out, I spent some time visiting my brother and future sister-in-laws new kittens.  (Adorable!!) :)

Weigh in this morning - 147.1.  I seem to have hit a plateau.  3 weeks in a row where I'm at basically the exact same weight.  I may need to switch it up some.  I should probably add some lifting into my routine - maybe get back into the ShapeFit class on Tuesdays.  On the up side... I'm not gaining. :)  Always a plus.

Not too much going on this weekend.  I'll go to TurboKick tomorrow.  May watch some college football with some friends tomorrow afternoon.  Not sure - not really a football fan, but it's something to do, I guess.

Sunday is the Annual Labor Day picnic.  It started at my dad's house, then he moved to NC and his friend took over.  Now my dad's back - but it's still at his friend's house.  It's a good time!  Kind of an ecclectic group, yard games, whole roasted pig, corn on the cob and lots of other good food.

Monday I'll probably just take it easy.  Relax and recuperate from Sunday. :)
